Sad but true, I haven’t changed a lick in all these years. I’m older, fatter, a lot more tired than back then, but I should have seen this all coming. Why, you ask? Just go read the article.

After waiting what seems like forever, it finally rained for most of this week. We can see on the radar that it is moving off and the tail end should be gone before lunch time. I had been waiting for the rain, telling myself that I would embrace it when it came, with knitting, favorite music on the iPod, soup in the crockpot, and copious amounts of tea. That was my fantasy.

The truth is that not much of that happened, except for maybe a small amount of knitting. And the soup was from a can. You know what? It’s been DARK here the last few days with this rain, and now I am longing for the light of the sun. It’s pretty much like me to want what I don’t have at the moment.

The kids are away today with grandparents and I don’t have to work more than a couple of hours. Maybe today will be the day to catch up on all that knitting. (And the laundry, and the shopping, and the housework, and, and, and… sigh.)

I don’t know why, but PBS kids sprout is still on in the background. I can’t believe I am too lazy to just go across the room and turn it off. I should be enjoying the quiet. But often, I don’t know how to do that.

I decided to add a library page to this blog. I love books! And I have lots of them. There’s not much on the Library page right now but it will continue to grow, so check back often!

I know, it’s been a VERY long time since I’ve written a post at all. But I’ve had some amount of dislike for this blog from the beginning. I think it had to do with the blog’s overall appearance. Trivial, I know, but if it is going to be MY space, then it has to look like something I would do, yes?

So I finally tweaked the theme of the blog to include one of my own photos that I took, and my favorite colors. Now it pleases me. Let’s hope it makes the difference. I need motivation to write more, so hopefully this will do it. Wish me luck!

And despite a crappy start to the workday, everybody really went out of their way to help me feel special.

First my friend Michele got me an asiago cheese bagel and toasted it for me and brought it to me for breakfast. Then, in the afternoon, she presented me with a home baked chocolate cake with marshmallow frosting! This was no easy feat considering it’s July in DC. I was lamenting during another co-worker’s party that I never get my favorite cake for my birthday because my birthday is in July and the frosting won’t set up right in this weather. I don’t know how she did it, given the humidity, but she did. And it was yummy! Another co-worker gave me a yummy purple candle in a purple gift bag, and my mother-in-law presented me with a new outfit to wear to a party this afternoon.

After the party at work I realized that my phone had been ringing off the hook and it was a flower delivery guy… bringing these beautiful all purple flowers from my dear friend Carrie in Denver. (Gee, do you think everyone who knows me knows I like purple? Haha.) Aren’t they pretty?

The fowers came with these cute balloons. Of course when DH helped me carry them to the car, everyone along the way wished me a happy birthday! That’s always fun.

The best part was going out to dinner with my cousins Genny, Diane and Joy. Genny’s been in town from Idaho for a few weeks, and Joy came in town for the weekend to come to my mother’s birthday party this afternoon. We started the evening at Sakura Japanese Steakhouse. I had a yummy filet mignon and scallops. Yum! We weren’t quite done talking when dinner was over so we headed to IHOP for dessert. I had the funnel cake with strawberry topping. Yum! Like I really needed that on top of a big dinner. But it was good!

When I arrived home it looked dark on our side of the street and then when we got out of the van we heard our generator running. Ugh! The power was out for who knows what reason. it didn’t even storm yesterday. Of course when the power goes out that sets DH into a bit of a tizzy so we didn’t sleep well. The power finally came back on at about 7:30 this morning.

What a day!

Wow, this is my first post in my new blog. I don’t really have anything too profound to say, given that it is the middle of the night and I really do need to go to bed. But the setup process has been mildly addictive, and I doubt I could have slept until it was done.

So, what is this blog going to be about, and why did I find it so important as to take up your time with reading it? Why do I ask myself these questions at nearly 1:30 a.m.? I have a friend who says I’m full of stories and I should write them down. So here is where I will do that, or attempt to, along with add running commentary on other aspects of my world, which will probably bore most to tears, but heck. That’s my perogative.
